In the result of the student polls announced late last night, the ABVP candidates have won big in most of the colleges and universities affiliated with the Rajasthan University. Late night on Wednesday, the results came as a setback for Congress party as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the majority of president’s posts in student union polls.
ABVP is the student wing of Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the win in Rajasthan’s student union polls promises a bright future of the political wing of RSS. The city of Bikaner saw the clean sweep win of ABVP as they bagged the president’s post in all three universities naming:
- Student leader Lokeshwar Singh won in the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences;
- Ashok Choudhary got elected from the Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University; and,
- Vikram Singh grabbed the president’s post in Maharaja Ganga Singh University.
The ABVP candidate won the president’s post undisputed in the University of Kota as Vijay Pratap received 308 votes after defeating the independent candidate Dhirendra Singh. It is either ABVP or an independent candidate who won at Kota Universities.
NSUI was able to convince students of Ajmer and swept the students’ union in Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University by winning the president, vice-president, and general secretary posts.
However, Congress had claimed that its candidates have won in most places as the state party president said, “Recently, the CM visited several districts, including Ajmer, but this did not win over the youth. Wins by NSUI prove that youths are angry at government reneging on its promise of 15 lakh jobs, and are now leaning towards Congress and NSUI.”
The NSUI were upset with the loss and there were reports of violence at certain places. They staged a protest rally against the results and even hurled stones at policemen at Bhopalgarh College in Jodhpur, injuring a SHO.
The elections were held in all the cities of Rajasthan, except Jaipur and Udaipur. Elections were postponed in these two cities because of the clash of dates with BRICS summit to be scheduled in Jaipur. In Udaipur, the student union elections of two universities were organized right before the two-day BRICS meet, which concluded on Tuesday. It is to be noted that the elections in University of Rajasthan are scheduled to be held on August 31.
