The ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association is to be revoked by BCCI soon. Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) had been suspended from BCCI in 2014. Since then the BCCI has been in-charge of the Rajasthan team. Now, Rajasthan has been playing as Team Rajasthan in domestic competitions and age-group tournaments.
In today’s emergent special general body meeting, the committee of administrators (CoA) met. In this meeting, the three key issues would be discussed. Here, the revoking of the RCA’s suspension will be one of three key issues. This is confirmed by BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna.
The suspension of Rajasthan had happened since the time former IPL chairman Lalit Modi was elected as RCA president. In June 2017, Congress leader CP Joshi was declared the president of RCA. The BCCI has been in-charge of the Rajasthan team in domestic competitions and age-group tournaments ever since, with the teams being referred to as Team Rajasthan.
Athough Lalit Modi was not in power but the Indian board refused to lift the suspension as Modi was still holding a post in one of the district cricket associations. It was demanded by the BCCI that Modi must stop holding any post in any of the affiliates or member units of the association.
“The main contention of keeping the suspension in place was Modi’s presence in the RCA as a district member. Now he has informed the BCCI that he is no longer in cricket administration…the BCCI has no problem now to take the RCA back under their umbrella,” a BCCI office bearer said.
