‘Caste-based politics’ in Rajasthan took a dramatic turn when the patrons of Rajput rights came forward to ‘bring justice’ to gangster Anandpal. The self-styled leaders spoke highly of ‘Rajputs’ promoting them as the guardians of women, the messiah of the poor. The so-called advocates of Anandpal Singh are the same people who were accused of rape and woman abuse. Why aren’t people surprised? Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, does that ring a bell? Yes, Gogamedi, the self-styled patron of the Rajputs was allegedly involved in a gang rape case! No wonder why he sees Anandpal as the ‘Robinhood’ of the poor!
Following the death of Anandpal Singh in police crossfire, riots erupted in the state, especially in Singh’s native place Sanvrad in Nagaur district. Rajput Protestants resorted to violence, torching up police vehicles, destroying public property and assaulting a female IPS officer. Rajasthan police had to go great lengths to control the aggravated mob. All this happened at Anandpal’s condolence meet staged by his elder Dubai-based daughter Cheenu aka Charanjit Kanwar Singh.
Besides Anandpal’s family, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi played an active role in fueling violence and hostility amidst the Rajput communities. He held rallies, where he provoked the Rajputs to pressurize government in Anandpal’s case.
Is Sukhdev Singh a true Rajput by name? Is he genuinely concerned about his community? It doesn’t seem like it! Had he been a true Rajput, he would’ve never abused a woman. The history is evident of the fact that Rajputs have done everything to protect a woman’s respect! Despite taking birth in an honorable clan, Gogamedi failed at upholding the Rajput honor.
In 2014, a 35-year-old married woman filed a rape complaint against Sukhdev Singh and his five allies. The other offenders were identified as Vikram Singh, Bahadur Singh, Shyopal Singh. Gogamedi, who was the president of Karni Sena then, invited the woman to Jaipur under the pretense of solving a family dispute. Thereafter, he kept her hostage at various locations, raped her at gunpoint for a year and hit her. They threatened to kill her if she opened her mouth.
Gogamedi went into hiding after the police had registered a case under sections 376 (rape), 376 D (rape by one or more persons), and 344 (wrongful confinement for 10 or more days) of the Indian Penal Code. Even Lokendra Singh Kalvi, the founder patron of Karni Sena suspended him from the Rajputana organization.
Three years since the incident, Gogamedi was seen in public, speaking in favor of gangster Anandpal! Under the pretense of a noble cause, Gogamedi slyly worked to win the favor of Rajasthan Rajputs. While it’s perfectly alright to work in the interests of one’s community, people don’t need to follow a criminal for that sake. People like Anandpal and Gogamedi are nothing but Cancer. They silently promote their inflammatory views in the society and end up causing more damage than good. The brave and chivalrous Rajputs of Rajasthan needn’t follow a rape accused in the name of caste!
