According to Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan, Rajasthan’s 20,000 villages through water conservation projects will be given adequate relief from the long running water crises. The projects involve recharging of depleted wells, ponds, lakes, dams and step wells. The latest districts witnessing the works of MJSA are Alwar, Ajmer, Jaipur, Nagaur and Sikar. Water bodies of these places were drenched out of drinkable water, but now to solve this issue, all the volunteers of MJSA from these particular districts have come together to clean the dried step wells in order to deepen them further. Mitthi Bai, a village volunteer said, “If we restore this lake, at least it will be a source of water for bathing of people and livestock.”
All this is taking place under the supervision of Sriram Vedire, who is the technocrat adviser to the state government and the Centre for concerns of water conservation. Mr. Vedire stated that, “We want to ensure self-reliance of a village in terms of water. We are covering 3,500 villages this year by building 1.1 lakh structures. Going forward, in the next three to four years, we will cover 20,000 villages.”
Funding of such projects is formulated by donations which the government receive as around 25 crore rupees have been already collected from organizations and individual donors.
