Government’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan(SMSA) takes a step ahead to provide quality education to the school children. Students in Government schools in the state will have No-bag day as a part of the program ‘Joyful Saturday’ under SMSA.

On Saturdays, the co-curricular activities will be conducted in the second half of the school time table for which the students won’t need heavy schoolbags. The schools shall conduct activities like debate, poetry, story writing, acting, plays and recitation of stories based on lives of great people.

An order has been issued by Shivangi Swarnkar, State project director of SMSA to the education officers of all districts. The idea of the initiative is to teach language, literature, science, performing arts and mathematics in a playful manner. No bags will be required in the second half on 2nd and 4th Saturdays. There will be a much lighter bag for the children for the days.

What is Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SMSA)?

In a bid to provide holistic and quality education along with the over-all development to the school children, government announced the mission in budget 2018-19. Here are the major objectives of the scheme-

  • Provision of quality education and enhancing learning outcomes of students.
  • Bridging Social and Gender Gaps in School Education.
  • Ensuring equity and inclusion at all levels of school education.
  • Ensuring minimum standards in schooling provisions.
  • Promoting Vocationalization of education.
  • Implementation of Rights of children to free and compulsory education (RTE) Act, 2009.
