JAIPUR: If you ever travelled from Sanganeri gate to Jorwar Singh Gate, saw a thronged traffic but until you realized , you already became a part of the congestion. Half an hour passed, the situation still seemed to just worsen. And you resolved to never come this way again. Then here is a good news for you:Travel time between Sanganeri Gate and Jorawar Singh Gate may soon shorten upto three minutes. According to the state government’s proposal, a subway will be constructed beneath the Walled City.
A private consultant agency has formulated a feasibility report to construct the 2.3-km subway. The report has been submitted to Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), which has sought suggestions from Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Jaipur Smart City Mission Limited (JSML).
An official said,”Commuters, especially tourists, can often be seen stuck in traffic jams in the area for hours. Commuters going to Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Amber have to pass through Sanganeri Gate and Jorawar Singh Gate via Badi Chaupar, and these are one of the busiest routes in Walled City.”
In a bid to decongest the Walled City and preserve heritage, the state government is taking a comprehensive view over the proposal to construct the underpass connecting Sanganeri gate to Jorwar Singh Gate. If the proposal hits the floors, it would reduce travel time to 3 minutes from 30 minutes. Alas!Plenty of time saved . After its construction, the subway will allow only two wheelers and four-wheelers. Gradually, buses too will be allowed to travel on the subway.
JMRC project director Ashwini Saxena said,”After receiving the suggestions, a workshop will be organised wherein discussions will be held between private consultants and various government departments. Based on the outcome, amendments will be incorporated in the report, if required.” The authorities are in talks with each other. Implemenation of the proposal is highly being recommended.
