As the Rajasthan Government completes it’s three successful years, Jaisalmer and Barmer  weave another milestone story for itself. Owing to the tremendous scarcity observed, agriculture and trade have been largely hit The city has pinned high hopes onto the State Government to provide relief. The State Government has approved to grant all possible reliefs to mitigate the issue at the earliest.

For the last three years, Barmer villages were declared scarcity hit and the maximum number of villages, which were declared scarcity hit this year, are in Barmer.

119703ad17603987826af9718678ec71Almost 2,478 (91%) villages in Barmer are scarcity hit. Recently, the state government has declared 13 districts including Barmer and Jaisalmer as scarcity hit. Barmer is followed by Jaisalmer with 728 villages as scarcity hit. A proposal has been accepted for providing relief through techniques like disaster management and relief department.

Barmer district collector Sudhir Sharma reported, “2,478 out of 2,727 revenue villages have been declared as scarcity hit where government will provide relief. Last year too, there were 2,206 villages which were declared scarcity hit.”

Official sources say that over 50% of these villages witness only periodic rains, thereby causing inadequate rains. It has impacted production of grains and fodder badly. Due to this, around 55 lakh cattle have landed in a dilemma.

Reports say that it has become difficult to arrange fodder and water for cattle. Sadly, these villages had to keep waiting for relief.

This year too, government has announced 2,478 villages as scarcity hit. Total 5,656 villages in 48 tehsils of 13 districts have been declared scarcity hit. On the other hand, Jaisalmer received 150mm rainfall, which is 21.13% less than normal. Jaisalmer had 726 out of 835 villages vulnerable to scarcity.

As per sources, the amount of rainfall is increasing year after year. In 2015, the state witnessed 454mm rainfall but 1,527 villages suffered damages whereas 2,478 villages were scarcity-struck despite being a recipient of 550mm rainfall this year (2016).

If Government sources are to be believed, irrigation cess will soon be waived off. In addition, short-term loans will be rolled-over into mid-term by postponing the collection. As per district administration’s proposal, relief will be provided in form of drinking water, transport and support to gaushalas.

The incumbent Rajasthan Government has gone out of their way to provide relief to the villagers and the farmers, in this case. They have also taken meaningful steps to ease livelihood means of the backward sections of the society. This goes on to show their heartfelt concern towards the backward and the unprivileged sections of the society. Commendable work by Raje Government during the#3YearsOfSuraaj.
