Udaipur Police Bans Internet Connectivity in Response To Facebook Controversy

An anonymous group of religion extremists tried to provoke communal violence by hurting the religious sentiments of a particular community in Udaipur. This incident was followed by tension prevailing Udaipur and nearby areas. Predicting the occurrence of communal violence, the Udaipur police sprung to action. Before things could’ve gone haywire, the decided to cut off the root cause of this problem. In a drastic attempt to restore normality, the Udaipur police banned internet connectivity this Tuesday.

The police are continuing with this decision this week. Meanwhile, the authorities arrested the notorious masterminds behind this controversy. Two people based in Udaipur were arrested in this matter. Verifying their involvement in this case, the police filed a case against the offenders at Haathipol and Fatehnagar police stations.

Upon investigating their social media accounts, it was found that the entire controversy started when these people started an abusive thread in their profile against a particular religion. In response, local users in Udaipur (from different communities) joined the fight and started shaming each-other’s religion. The contents of the posts contained abuses against revered deities. All this happened publicly on Facebook.

The matter attracted police attention when some responsible citizens reported it to Rajasthan police. Before the scandal could escape from Facebook to real life, the police employed their technical surveillance teams to trace IP addresses of people who’ve initially started these posts. The police immediately approached Facebook team to block this post. After the post was removed, the police traced the geographic location of the offenders.

A criminal case was registered under appropriate sections of IPC, as informed by IG Anand Srivastav, Udaipur Police. Both the offenders were identified as brainwashed youngsters that looked for fight. The police approached their parents and called them for a meeting at the police station. The youngsters were scolded by the parents when the police revealed their misdeeds before their family. No one opposed the decision of arresting the youngsters.

Before this issue could’ve assumed a communal form, the Udaipur police decided to ban internet connection. All people who were found guilty of commenting on that thread were traced. The surveillance team will keep an eye on them to prevent such nuisance in the future. Amidst all this tension, the police have requested youngsters to keep calm. They authorities have approached parents their parents to counsel the youths. The negligence of Udaipur police could’ve caused another episode of religious violence in Rajasthan. However, their timely intervention saved the day!
