A first of its kind plant was inaugurated in Kota on Sunday that will manufacture tiles and blocks from Kota stone slurry and will keep a check on pollution. Established by the Kota Stone Traders Association with Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and Rajasthan Industrial Investment Corporation, the plant will enable gainful utilization of Kota stone slurry.

Reportedly, the plant will manufacture slurry-based floor and wall tiles, paver blocks, and Cellulose Lightweight Concrete Blocks. Earlier, the National Green Tribunal had imposed fines on Kota stone traders for improper disposal of the stone slurry after which the traders had assured the tribunal that the slurry will be utilized efficiently.

In an effort to do the same, the Pashan Welfare Foundation has set up this plant as a part of the startup project of Rajasthan government. The foundation is not only utilizing the slurry in manufacturing tiles and other materials but also urging the government to use these materials in government development projects.

The products made from the Kota stone slurry are 30% cheaper than the conventional blocks and tiles. Moreover, since it’s an insulating material, its use in the construction of the buildings will also help in keeping the temperature of the building low.

According to the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, around 200 to 250 tonnes of Kota Stone Slurry is generated per day at around 250 Kota stone processing units in the city. The board said that it had carried out a study through Central Building Research Institute of IIT Roorkee that later developed the technique.
