Rajasthan tops with maximum number of universities in India

Rajasthan has topped the charts with the maximum number of universities in India and has bagged the third spot in the number of colleges. The state has 78 total universities (of all types) followed by Uttar Pradesh with 72 universities. Talking about the third spot, it’s acquired by Tamil Nadu with 58. Talking about colleges, the total number of colleges has gone up from 2,435 in 2010-11 to 2,744 in 2013-14 and to 3203 in 2016-17.

Talking specifically about Jaipur, the Pink City has grown more popular regarding education institutes and colleges apart from just tourism. The Rajasthan capital has secured the second spot in terms of the number of higher educational institutes. The number one city in this list is Bangalore with 1025 institutes followed by Jaipur which has 635 institutes.

With this figure, the Pink City has beat well-established cities like Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai having 487, 421, and 322 institutes. Although Jaipur is second in the number of institutes, it has the maximum number of universities of all types. As per KB Kothari, a senior academician, the city has a good law and order situation and a better connectivity because of which it’s an ideal location for students to pursue the education in the north, west, and central zone.

However, despite an adequate number of colleges and universities, the average enrolment still needs to be checked upon. The mere presence of institutes is not enough to ensure that the students get proper education and hence it’s important to check the rate of enrolment in these educational bodies.
