UDID Cards

Rajasthan has left behind all other states in the race of issuing IDs to the differently-abled people. The state has topped by issuing 2,22,422 Universal ID and Disability (UDID) cards, which are a single document of identification and verification for the Divyangs. As per the latest reports by the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities, Rajasthan gained the top spot by beating Madhya Pradesh.

While Madhya Pradesh came second by generating 2,18,007 UDID cards for the divyangs, Odisha came third with the issue of 59,248 e-cards. As per Anupama Jorwal, Director, Specially-abled persons in the department of social justice and empowerment, the cards can be downloaded online or can also be delivered to their doorsteps.

As per Dr. Samit Sharma, Special Secretary and Director of the department, Rajasthan has been able to achieve the results that Madhya Pradesh took 4 years to accomplish. These UDID cards are given to people with 40% and above disability and contain all the necessary details in a way that they don’t have to carry multiple documents. The information mentioned on these cards can be decoded with a reader.

Reportedly, the state government is screening and updating the records so that the welfare schemes benefits can be given to the differently-abled people. The department carried out a campaign in 3 phases. The first phase took place from June to September 2017 whereby more than 9 Lakh divyangs were registered.

In the second phase that took place from October 2017 to December 2017, the people were examined for identifying those having 40% or above disability. In the third phase, these people were certified and so far 2.22 Lakh divyangs have been given the UDIDs.

CM Raje had also promised to distribute motorized tricycles to the orthopedically challenged people. To fulfill the same, she is going to distribute the tricycles to people with 90% and above disability aged between 16 to 30 years. This distribution will be carried out at a function that has been organized on 14th April in Jaipur.
