There is a species of bull in Rajasthan called Nagori. As they are used in ploughing so this species of bulls are high in demand. Earlier, there were strong regulations about trading of these calves but the state cabinet earlier this month amended the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act. It has allowed trading of Nagori bull calves over two years of age. But this time, the government is planning to bring some rules for trading the calves. Nagori bull calves are likely to have a stamp of approval of the Rajasthan government. Hence, only stamped animals will be traded.

Only specific species of bovine can be traded intra-state and inter-state. There are cases where other breeds are also traded as Nagori calves.

It is also planned that these calves only to those states that have cow slaughter laws in place and the buyer will have to show the undertaking that the animal is being transported for farming purposes.

Nagori Bulls
As the name suggests, these are the bulls traced to the Nagaur district of Rajasthan. Nagori is a bovine species bigger than other species. A pair of Nagori bull costs around Rs 500,000.

This new amendment will ease the trading of Nagori bulls but adequate measures will be taken so there will be no crime in the name of bovine trading and animal protection.
