This year, Rajasthan Cooperative Society made some life-changing decisions to benefit farmers. Whether it is offering crop-free loans to needy farmers or leasing cold storage warehouses for preserving crops, the cooperative society of Rajasthan has made life convenient for the natives.

In a first of its kind move, Rajasthan sets minimum academic qualification for contesting elections in Rajasthan Cooperative elections. The Rajasthan Cooperative Department made a formal announcement this week. The state government amended the ‘State Cooperative Societies Rules, 2003’ in this context. The state released a formal notification regarding the amendment on July 10. Following this amendment, the new rules will benefit 10,000 agricultural credit cooperative and state cooperative societies.

The minimum educational qualifications for contenders who wish to contest for elections of different state boards are class V to class VIII. The new rule is applicable to the elections of village cooperative society, Weaver’s society, dairy society, consumer society, credit society, housing construction society urban bank, primary land development bank, and cooperative union.

The minimum qualification required for primary committee members is class 5. As for the district level members, they need to pass class 8. These rules will ensure that only qualified and deserving candidates contest for state cooperative elections.

To ensure that contestants abide by the new criteria set by the government, the Rajasthan state cooperative election authority will conduct and supervise the election process for various posts. Besides setting minimum qualification for elections, Rajasthan is the first state in India to appoint a Recruitment Board operating via the state cooperative committees. The board members will personally supervise the recruitment process for cooperative committees.

By implementing these measures, the government will ensure safety and welfare of Rajasthan farmers.
