Ram Chandra, s son of a porter who was born and brought up at Sojat, a town in Rajasthan, has proved that dreams can be woven into reality. With consistent dedication towards his goal, Ram has transformed the lives his family members who are now leading a better lifestyle.
Ram is currently working as a Google executive at the internet giant’s Seattle office in the US. His journey has been long and incessant. He has been on a treadmill of hardwork and success, eversince he passed Class 12th.
Ramchandra Sankhala (25) is the son of an ordinary labourer, Tejaram Sankhala (50) loads tonnes of henna on trucks in a plant used for dyeing, which is 262km southwest of Jaipur. He earns a daily wage of Rs. 400. On being asked, why is he still working as a labourer. He firmly said, “I feel useless if I don’t work.”
The father doesn’t need to work for his lifetime now, as his son draws a hefty salary. Ram has an yearly package of Rs. 36 lakhs.
Ram said his father took a loan of approximately 8.5 lakh ( 5lakh from the bank and3.5 lakh from personal individuals). Ram approached all the village uncles who had lent money for his studies. Ram said, “People didn’t take back the money they lent me when I offered to repay. They said help the needy, bright students who are like me.
“I keep telling him not to work but he won’t listen,” Ram said in a telephonic conversation with a media agency. He added, “I want to work until we become financially secure. After that I will stay with my family in Sojat and become a social worker,” signed off the young man, who picked up English by speaking aloud subtitles from Western movies he watched in his college days,” he added.
Ram also got a scholarship of Rs.30000 for each semester. He saved and spent Rs. 70000 to construct a kitchen for his parents.
Ram’s mother is a homemaker who takes care of a 1.5 acre land, which they recently bought with the earnings of Ram. With the earnings of Ram, a large acre land, a brick-and mortar house . All dreams of his parents have been realised. And they are now leading a better life.
“He was bright since childhood. We knew that he will improve the family’s fortunes some day,” she ardently said.
Ram has 2 siblings- Vikas(24) and Jyoti(22). Nonetheless, both have not fared in studies as good as their elder brother has. However, Ram has graciously sent her younger daughter for her higher studies. What a doting brother!
Ram has also hired a tutor for his illiterate parents at their home.
This instance has woven a new success story and will become a source of immense inspiration to turn dreams into reality for all those with minimal resources. Ram is not just one man who has brought laurels for his family. There have been a handful more.
These handful believe in the power of magic which dwells in hard work and commitment.
