Rajasthan is grooving to a different rhythm with strings of massive advancements and holistic development in all realms of lifestyle, technology and sports. Unquestionably, Jaipur, being the State capital is all likely to follow in the footsteps.

Officials claim that Jaipur will be the first city to get sensor- based dustbins. In order to mitigate the problem of shoddy garbage management system in the Pink City, Jaipur Development Authority(JDA) has decided to install 15 sensor-based dustbins at Central Park. The dustbins will be installed under the light house project, initiated under the JDA.

“On Monday, we received the dustbin. It would take a week’s time to integrate with central monitoring system (CMS),” said a senior JDA engineer.

What’s most amusing about these dustbins? If 75% of the dustbin gets filled, a light will blink on the CMS. Moreover, the civic body will be automatically alerted. Post which, they can send a collection vehicle to empty these dustbins.

Jaipur was placed in 29 among 73 cities in the Swachh Bharat Mission survey. Results were announced on the basis of assessment of the basic parameters of the Swachh Bharat Mission like availability of infrastructure and service levels related to sanitation such as individual household toilets, public and community toilets and collection, transportation and processing of municipal solid waste.

An official said, “In recent past, it has been witnessed that dustbins placed at public places are overflowing with litters which is very unhygienic. All this happens due to lack of monitoring. This help will assist senior official in keeping strict vigil and if these dustbins are installed across the city, it would bring revolutionary change in the field of sanitation.”

A sanitation app will also be launched which will also be integrated into the dustbins.  Once the complete installation is made, JMC will take over the dustbins from JDA for the purpose of maintenance.
