North Western Railways or NWR’s Ajmer division is Rajasthan’s first division to initiate fully digitized record system for its employees. Now, the staff can easily access their service sheet online, using a secure user ID and password. The division has successfully digitized their record on the official government website.

The district has accomplished two milestones by digitizing their records– maintaining transparency in the hiring process and preventing misuse of records. Moreover, it’s easy to rectify errors in service record of an employee, with all details available on a single database.

Moved by the success of Ajmer NWR, the local administration held a seminar on ‘digital banking’ this Thursday (11th May). Mr. Surya Prakash (The Senior Divisional Personnel Officer), briefed his subordinates on the intricacies of digital banking. The conference was presided over by Mr. Puneet Chawla (Divisional Railway Manager, Ajmer). His address was based on the ‘importance of digitization with changing times’. It’s important to rope in information technology in different spheres of life, as it enhances workplace efficiency and saves time. The prime objective of the conference was to spread a word on information technology.

Last November, PM Narendra Modi led BJP government launched demonetization to promote cashless economy through different modes of digital payments. Since publicity plays an important role in generating awareness, the NWR stepped forward to publicize cashless transactions in different districts of Rajasthan. Udaipur, Ajmer, Raniand and other railway stations have introduced online process for booking tickets. Additionally, the railway department will educate railway station vendors to use digital modes like wallets, net banking and government-run BHIM app for day-to-day transactions.

Following the digitization of online records, Ajmer division will deploy PoS (Point of Sale) machines for various railway stations. Customers can now swap cards for purchasing refreshments and tickets.

The conference invited employees from different sections, other than Ajmer Railways. Government employees interacted with experts and discussed the advantages/disadvantages of cashless money and online records. Overall, it was a fruitful, informative session for workers, as most of them developed awareness regarding information technology.
