After fielding in Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as the Presidential candidate, the NDA government has announced former I&B minister M Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice-President candidate of India.

BJP President Amit Shah yesterday announced the candidature of Venkaiah Naidu at the Parliamentary Board Meeting. After Shah’s announcement, Modi took to Twitter to express his satisfaction at the decision.

I know M Venkaiah Naidu Garu for years. I have always admired his hard work and tenacity. A fitting candidate for the office of Vice-President,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

BJP Candidature: One of the many agendas

BJP also chalks out big plans. BJP plans to expand its likeability in the South. BJP has ambitious plans for expanding the party’s influence in the South. The candidature of Venkaiah Naidu may engender positive friendly relations across the southern cities including Telangana.

Amit Shah reflected on the notable political journey of Naidu who joined politics on 1970.

“Venkaiah ji is one of the most respected politicians across political parties. His name was finalized after consulting all NDA partners and the parliamentary board was unanimous about his candidature,” the BJP chief said.

A glimpse at Venkaiah Naidu’s political career

Naidu started out in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee ministry. He then became a prominent face from the South during the JP movement. In a bid to contest for the VP elections, Naidu has stepped down from the urban development and IB ministries in the Modi government.

I would like to assure all citizens that on being elected, I will uphold the traditions and standards set by worthy predecessors,” NDA candidate Venkaiah Naidu said.

“The office of the vice president has been held by the illustrious people like Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Zakir Hussain, M Hidayatullah, R Venkataraman, Shanker Dayal Sharma and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat… calls for august responsibilities and I am aware of it,” he added.
