Mohanlal Sukhadia University – the premier educational institution in Udaipur is prepped up for a campus makeover. Besides renovating the dilapidating campus, the MLSU authorities will put up CCTVs in 9 hostels, including three women’s hostels, in a bid to ensure student safety.

On suggestions from a Bharatpur college group, Rajasthan education department proposed the idea of having biometric attendance systems for students in schools and colleges. The MLSU will be one of the first institutions to implement this change on-ground. The university management will install biometric attendance units in the upcoming academic session. It would ensure that all students fulfill the compulsory attendance limit (75%) set by the university.

While the new ‘swipe and scan’ attendance units will boost student attendance, the CCTVs will discourage any untoward activity within the college premises.

In time, the university management has received complaints on outsiders creating disturbance in the college hostels. The CCTVs will help check external intrusion and keep tabs on student activities. Even the hostellers supported the installation of surveillance cameras to prevent theft, ragging, and other anti-social activities on campus.

The authorities have opened tenders for appointment of security personnel. It would make students feel safe while exploring the campus at odd hours.

Shortage of funds and negligence by authorities reduced the university to shambles, but now, the campus is in for a ‘big’ change. The hostel administration will conduct maintenance and repair works in MB, Nehru and Kamla Nehru college hostels. For years, the hostellers and wardens have complained of inadequate water supply and sanitation issues in the hostels.

The hostel water supply was incoherent since last two years and desperately needed attention. Students didn’t have access to clean water in the morning hours. Resultantly, the enrollees arriving from distant locations had to turn to PG accommodations for convenience.

Nevertheless, the education department has decided to take the matter into their hands. In future, they’ll be making appropriate changes to campuses and hostels, in a bid to boost enrollments.
