A big revelation was made yesterday. The City Police spelled out that preventive detentions and proactive surveillance across the city have engendered a notable plumetting in crime.

The City Police shed light categorically on Incidents of murder, loot and kidnapping. They said that such incidents were down by 12 per cent in 2016 in relative terms with the previous year.

However, the police informed that due to an increase in the number of forged rape cases has posed a major challenge for them in monitoring and controlling the situation.

“We registered 330 rape cases in 2016, which was 18 per cent higher than the figures recorded in the previous year. However, of the 276 cases solved, 43 per cent were false. In several of these cases, a complaint was filed to extort money or implicate an individual,” said a senior police official.

“The major gangs that smuggle guns into Jaipur from Uttar Pradesh were busted, helping us bring down murder cases in the city. For the first time in the last three years we recorded a 15 per cent decline in murder cases,” the police official said.

The police took credit for detaining slew of people under under section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Goondas Act.

“Jaipur police adopted `safe street project,’ wherein we carried out search operations, intensive checking at entry points and details of criminals were digitized which helped us catch offenders easily,” the official informed.

Furthermore, the police reported that cases of attempt to murder have also dropped down from 103 in 2015 to 97 in 2016.

Especially in the last 3 years, the Crime rate has formidably plummeted by a considerable level. Frequent checkings clubbed with unabashed patrolling and stringent detentions have contributed towards diminishing the crime rate in the city.
