The feeder service of Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is all set to be revamped. Recently, JMRC has issued work orders to private firm named Jaiswal Travels.

JMRC director Jeengar said ” All the vehicles deployed will be of Euro-III and Euro-lV technology, 2015 model. As Metro supports pollution-free transportation, new vehicles was the major clause in the tender.”

These feeder services will be operated on PPP mode (public-private partnership).

If reports are to be believed, the firm would provide Rs 15 on per vehicle to JMRC as a fee. The vehicle maintenance and operation cost will be borne by the contractor.

In second year of its operations, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is witnessing continuous fall in ridership on Jaipur Metro, Phase-I (Mansarovar to Chandpole corridor).

For this purpose, the firm would deploy 100 eight-seater Tata Magic vehicles till June 2017 at all Metro stations.

JMRC fuelled the registration process at city’s transport department. In phase -1, JMRC will commence services with 20 vehicles near Mansarovar and New Aatish market Metro stations.

These feeder services will run on the routes decided by the transport department. “These feeder services will ferry passengers in maximum 7-km area from the Metro station. JMRC will decide the fares for these services soon,” an official said.

Once the feeder service is launched, JMRC expects that the number of passengers will increase to 1000 per day. “Metro runs for 15 hours in the city. These vehicles will make one trip in an hour. As per this calculation, the vehicles will ferry at least 1000 passengers to Metro,” the official added.

In a bid to upscale ridership, the state department will also link routes of public buses. A stand for Rajasthan Lok Parivahan buses will be developed at Aatish Market near Metro station gate no. 2.

“There are nearly 382 buses which make nearly 512 trips per day. An inspection was carried out recently by the minister. The ridership of Metro will increase as people using these buses will travel in Metro too.”
