Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on Thursday at AIIMS in New Delhi, where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June. Through a press release on 5:30 pm AIIMS said in a statement, ‘It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05pm on 16.08.2018.’

It is an end of ‘Atal Era’. Indian politics lost ‘Bhishmapitamah’. He was being reported unwell as he had suffered a stroke on Wednesday. Bharat Ratna Atal ji was admitted to the AIIMS in last June with a kidney track infection, chest congestion and urine output in a lower side. He has been also struggling with Dementia. He had announced his retirement from electoral politics in 2005 and withdrew further from public life in 2009 after suffering a stroke that weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he developed dementia.
