Tiger reserve

The Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve will soon get its first tiger by the next month as per the latest reports. The state government will start shifting the Tigers to the Mukundra Reserve in the Hadauti region by April. While the first one will reach in April, the other two will be shifted later.

The committee members took a tour of the Darrah area on Monday to assess the area for preparations. They inspected whether the place was completely ready to shift the tigers. After completing the necessary protocol and seeking permission from National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife Institute of India (WII), the shifting procedure will be started.

As per Ajit Singh, the Chairman of Standing Committee of State Board for Wildlife, certain instructions have been given to the officials of MTHR. In addition to the four water holes that are currently present in the Darrah area, the officials have been asked to develop 2-3 more water holes.

The Mukundra reserve will get 3 tigers, one male, and two female, in phases. Reportedly, this will be the first relocation of big cats that will be carried out to decongest the wildlife habitat of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The civil work is likely to be completed by March 31 and the committee has already instructed the officials to speed up the fence work.

There are two enclosures in the area out of which the 24-hectare enclosure has been completed while the work on 82 square km enclosure is still in progress. As far as the Tigers are concerned, they will be chosen on the basis of parameters like age, health, territory, and current location. Some of the probable choices are T-91, T-95, T-99, and T-102. Besides, more than 100 cheetals will also be shifted to the reserve to serve as their prey base.
