It’s definitely an extraordinary move by the Election Commission in Rajasthan that it has allowed the government for grants for cow shelters. The grant is up to Rs 3.22Cr for cow shelters in the state.

With the model code of conduct in the state before assembly elections, the government needed EC’s permission for the grant. A similar grant was being given to cow shelters between 2016-2018 but was limited to the shelters that had cows between 150-200 in number. However, the grant will be given to cow shelters having 100-200 cows so as to rope in more shelters.

The government is already giving Rs 16 to Rs 32 per cow every day to the cow shelters having cows more than 200 in number. This is the first time, shelters having cows from 100 to 200 will get the benefits.

More than 300 cow shelters in wait

The scheme was proposed in September 2018 but due to some technicalities, it was pending and the matter ultimately went to the election commission after the implementation of the model code of conduct in the state. The orders clearing the grant were issued on Thursday.

There are about 1,745 cow shelters in the state, out of which 322 cow shelters have cows within 100-200 in number. The decision taken will cost around Rs three crore, 22 lakh to the government. Therefore, the government had to ask the election commission for the permission.

Along with this, election commission allowed two appointments in the energy department and appointments in the energy department and appointment of LDC of 2013 selected batch. However, the Rajasthan is going to witness assembly elections on 199 seats if total 200 on December, 7. The election commission is strict and keeping a close eye of all the activities by the government and candidates. The result will come out on December 11. Before that, the model code of conduct will stay in effect.
