State Biodiversity Board mentioned that Great Indian bustard is among the 39 endangered species in Rajasthan. The list also includes tigers and around 40 plants.

According to a 2014 survey taken by Wildlife Institute of India (WII), 44 great Indian bustards in were counted in various regions of Rajasthan. Their number decreased from 44 to 13 by last year.

Devendra Kumar Bhardwaj, member secretary of the board said, “The list of endangered species of animals and plants was prepared after consultations with experts, so that conservation efforts could be planned and public awareness generated.”

Along with this, some experts on seeing the dropping number of the listed species said, “Land use mismanagement and lack of a conservation policy have endangered the biodiversity nurtured in an arid ecosystem in Rajasthan.”
