Children are the future of the country and they must be treated the same way. Education is the most effective way you can choose to transform your state and country. With the same mindset, the Rajasthan state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has taken many initiatives for the welfare and the benefit of the students and children in the state. Rajasthan government recently has upgraded and transformed more than 60,000 anganwadis into pre-school learning centers in the state.

More than 60,000 anganwadis in Rajasthan are being transformed into pre-school learning centers and into healthcare centers. Not only this, these anganwadis are getting a makeover with upgraded facilities. The state government has taken this initiative of transforming the 60,604 anganwadis. This is being done with the help of community participation and as well as the aid provided by the private individuals, philanthropists and trusts.

Dr Samit Sharma, director of Integrated Child Development Scheme said, “Most private participation comes in the form of help to improve infrastructure. People and organisations have given books, school uniforms, school bags, stationery, water bottles, clocks, weighing machines and other material required in the anganwadis.”

“Even the poor send their children to pre-schools. Why should they spend on private schools when we spend 1, 600 crore in anganwadis where children can study for free? The kit includes a pencil, rubber, sharpner, ruler and a book with Basic English, Hindi and arithmetic lessons, which is given to children free of cost. Children come dressed in uniforms, carrying school bags and ID cards. The whole environment has changed and become much more positive,” he added.

Angawadis will now be soon converted into pre-school centres for children from the age of three to six years. The centres will majorly provide six services– supplementary nutrition, health check-ups, early childhood education, immunization and referral services, growth monitoring and healthcare and nutrition education. Sharma said, “the total number of children enrolled after the drive in July was 2, 82,364 up from 1,21,6259.”

The data that has been collated by the department show that Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur and Nagaurare the top 5 districts which have the highest enrollment in the state and Jaisalmer, Pratapgarh,  Dholpur, Sirohi and Bundi are mong the districts with the lowest number of enrolment.

Sharma further told,

“An anganwadi has a team of three staff members who are supervised by a woman supervisor. Each supervisor has 40-50 anganwadis under her. I have started a WhatsApp group of woman supervisors who have to send updates and pictures of their visits to centres under their jurisdiction every day.”
